Have you tried clearing your CMOS? Sounds like your CMOS is bad, I don't think your PC has died.

When you do the CMOS clear, unplug your puter from the wall socket. Then press the power button to discharge the capacitors. Then pull the battery or do the jumper on 2/3 trick.

When you say the power was off, did you purge the capacitors too?

The guy a few steps above said to hold the power button to do that.

Sometimes even when the power cable is unplugged, or you have it switched off at the PSU, the board can retain some power.
You should take out the power cable and press the power button to purge, then remove the battery for 30 seconds or so.

Meh, it's just that the small amounts of power still held by the charged capacitors can provide enough current to keep the CMOS from really clearing properly. I know because I used to have an old P3 Tualatin that had a borked battery holderthingy so I just pulled the batt completely. As long as I never unplugged it from the wall it would hold the BIOS settings just fine.
