Default Cousin's Build has gone haywire.. HELP!

CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955 BE 3.2GHz
RAM: Mushkin Enhanced Blackline 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3 1600
MOBO: ASUS 785G AMD AM3 ATX
PSU: Corsair 650 HX Modular
HDD: 1TB WD Caviar Black
CASE: Antec 900 Black Steel ATX
OPTICAL: LG Black 22x DVD Burner

So, I put that together for my cousin. Everything went fine with the build, plugged it in and it booted up. I installed windows 7, and one time during the installation it froze up. I rebooted the machine, reinstalled windows, and booted up. We installed office, firefox, antivirus on the machine. He is only using it for web browsing and you guessed it, office. He told me today, about two weeks since having it, that it is randomly freezing up. I think something needs to be RMA'd, what do you think is causing this issue?

He says it happens randomly, and that it isn't certain things he does that will lead to it freezing. Help please!

I had once similar problem and in my case it was faulty ram.
Make sure u run Memtest on RAM to confirm they are good.

Yes. Test the RAM using Memtest.

Sorry to be such a noob, what will Memtest tell me? Will it just tell me the timings and frequency they are running at? Do you think we should get a new brand of RAM altogether or just get a new package of the same type?

Memtest is a stability/error test. It will tell you if the RAM is bad or not and if it is bad then it needs to be replaced.

I would also run memtest as the first step, but even before that check the temps. If that doesn't work run HDTune and check the HD, and if that doesn't work my next best guess would be to check the psu and mobo. Quickest to the longest diagnosis.

also keep in mind when using memtest, you get the overall errors but won't tell you which stick it's on.
