Default 4 Sticks Of RAM?

ATM my mobo runs 2 sticks at DDR400, 2t, stock timings - if i do ANYTHING to make it faster the mobo goes screwy, and yet i used to have this memory at 279 FSB () - if i were to add another 2x 512's (probably value ram, seeing as i have to run at stock), would i see problems? would the memory controller cope?

Could anyone give a hint as to why my memory is wierd, either?

AMD's memory controller prefers to work with 2 sticks of RAM. Putting the full four sticks in there would put too much stress on it. I'm not too sure about the your mobo, but my buddy's machine will run the RAM slower when running four sticks of RAM. His machine drops his RAM down to DDR333 and 2T. Not sure about what yours might do. However, it is a sign of stress. Plus, if you are going to put value RAM in there, don't expect to run it at 279MHz at DDR400 divider. It just won't work. If you really want more RAM, the unfortunate news is that you're going to have to find a 2x1GB kit. The controller works at the speed of the slowest stick so the weakest link will cause all other sticks to slow down.

I know with my board if you switch up four sticks of ram it gives a lot of errors especially in the last two slots. I would stay with 2 sticks if you can.

the point is that atm my ram runs at 199 MHz because of my screwy mobo, on a DDR266 divider

4x memory modules is a strain on the on die memory controller. Thus will hamper overclocking and will automatically put you into 2T

Just get a 2x1gb set. Saves all the possible hassle in the future.

Also imo it's a bad idea to use different brands of ram. Bad things could happen!

What are your RAM when you ran it at 279MHz? Was it on the same board? What are your settings now?
