I recently had a module go bad on my DDR500 Ballistix 2x1gb kit. I sent them in and they sent me replacements real quick. While I eas waiting I used a set of Gskill value DDR400 2x512mb and r 2x256mb Corsair value which I ran at auto settings and 2t command rate. I got great clocks with these settings, 2.9ghz Orthos stable on air.
__________________When I received my replacements I tried setting them manually to their proper default timings running at DDR500 but could not get any stable overclock at any speed. It wasn't till I set them to auto that I could get stable high overclocks again, but the Ballistix refuse to run above DDR400 speeds even at stock speeds. They run at CAS 2.5 with pretty tight timings on auto but only on auto. Was wondering if anyone else has had this issue with this board. Its not that big of a deal as I would rather run 2.9ghz w/DDR400 speeds than manual settings at real low cpu speeds. I have tested the modules with memtest and they report no errors so what gives? It does it in Vista and XP so I am not sure what the problem is. ANy ideas?

Did you reset CMOS between all these RAM changes, and start from scratch with the overclock?
Maybe a BIOS flash might help also.

Done, Done, and Done. Working with bios 0701 maybe thatts it, cause 0601 let me set them manually without issue.

CAS 2.5-4-3-6 or CAS 2.4-2-4-6 either @ 2.8 with the DDR400 setting should get you to high 260 to low 270 dependant on the ICs.
If that isn't a high enough RAM speed drop to DDR333 as necessary.

Try setting your ram on a divider as Duke said. It might be too much for it.

I set it all the way down to 133 and it always goes to the fails overclock screen even if the cpu isn't overclocked, its just weird. Only auto gets me to the boot page.

Have you tried a different BIOS, perhaps even dropping back a version?

Just did that, had to use abit bios flash utility as I have no floppy abd needed to do it in windows. Flash was successful, now I can set my memory back to its proper setting when overclocking. Got it to this http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc?id=195889 . 0701 just wont let me tweak my ram at all 0602 is the one for me I guess. I am happy again.
__________________Also reflashed with Asus update prog in vista, XP just wouldn't do it just to make sure bios was correctly installed. Since it was the same dated bios from 0602 I reflashed once more just to be sure and it flashed OK.
