Default More ram, or faster ram?

Ok, iv been trying to figure this out for a while.

Which is better for gaming, more ram or faster ram?

I have 3 different setups i can use with my ram:

1. The one i use now which is 2 512mb sticks in dual channel which runs around 5gb/s

2. 3 512mb sticks which run at about 2.3gb/s but give me 1.5gb.

3. 3 512mb sticks and one 256mb stick about the same bandwidth as 2 but with about 1.7gb now.

Which one will be better? For performance and stability.

Im having a problem with game stability with ONE of my games, the others run fine at either setup. The game is Street Legal Racing Redline 2.3.0LE and 2.2.1.

It appears that on other computers the game runs fine, but i just keep chaning my setup and settings to try and get it to run smoothly.

The resolution im gaming at is 1280x960. So its nothing very high.

I'd say 3 times 512 MB of same make and batch will give you the best performance.

Well, i guess i forget to mention:

I have 2 Corsair XMS DDR 512mb sticks

1 PNY Verto DDR 512mb stick

and 1 256mb Kingston ValueRam (no heatspreader, pretty crappy)

So if they were different models would that cause instability in games?
