There is no reason to get 8Gb atm. The crappy 2Gb ram modules that are out now have horrible transfer rates (even at higher speeds).

Hopefully they will clock better in the near future. Until then, 4x1Gb with good Micron D9xxx chips offer the best transfer rates/performance even though it might cost a bit more.

I can tell you that 8GB is def overkill right now.

However, I am still very happy with it.

It's not like I always upgrade for practical reasons! Although I'm a CS major... so (theoretically) I could write some really intense programs for my research... theoretically.

well 8GB would be uninspired, cause I think ddr3 will be common place long before any desktop needs 8GB of ram.

Don't think it makes a difference going over 4GB unless your really into some heavy memory hogging apps. I noticed nothing really going from 2GB to 4GB in DDR2.

While i'm here...someone buy me 8GB of the DDR3 i have now. K thanks bye.

4GB is great because the you can overclok it to your harts content because 8GB dosent make much of a diffrentce unless ur runing like 4 or more hevy apps at the sametime

for the 4GB

8GB is basically good for HEAVY processing, and if you're simply gaming it won't make a difference int he world. Seriously 8GB is basically just bragging rights... But I'd suggest you throw the spare money @ getting a high end GFX card and just stick to 2-4GB of ballistix...
