Default Anyone have 8GB RAM?

If so, along with a 64 bit OS, have you noticed an impact when playing high demand games like BF2 or Supcom?

When I build my next computer, I plan on getting a quad core processor, 8GB RAM, and a mid-high video card with XP Pro x64 to play all my games. (Don't tell me to use Vista <_<) But ya, 8GB of ram is only $170, so it's not unreasonable anymore.

I don't think there would be much difference. I upgraded from 2gb to 4gb and barely noticed any kind of improvement.

8GB is basically good for HEAVY processing, and if you're simply gaming it won't make a difference int he world. Seriously 8GB is basically just bragging rights... But I'd suggest you throw the spare money @ getting a high end GFX card and just stick to 2-4GB of ballistix...

Hm. I guess 4GB would be enough, I just figured 8GB would help with Supcom in particular.

8G of ram is only needed for heavy encoding/architectural work, and 3D animation work.

That's right, you'll never need more than 640kb of memory...

We don't know what games will come out next week, month, or year that might use more than 2GB of memory or so. There's some games out now that will use up 3GB. What if you want to game while encoding a video? Isn't that the whole point of all these damn cores and GBs anyway JUst last year 2GB was more than enough for any game and your OS. For several years before that it was 1GB. Memory demands are increasing more rapidly before. Blame superfast processors, GPUs, 64bit, and especially falling memory prices. The main reason we haven't needed large memory chunks before is 32bit limits and the damn price fixing.

I say go for it, I did. I'll let you know how it goes.
