Default Can I run 1066 mhz ram on an 800 mhz board?

I gotta get some better ram for overclocking my cpu, I was wondering if I could run 1066 mhz ram on an 800 mhz board? would it run at 800 mhz? but as I overclock it would go back up?

If it could run 1066 RAM, it would be a 1066 board.

chances are, yes, but you might be running @ 800MHz without an OC on the RAM.

mhhm I guess overclocking it would be rather easy just set it at 800 mhz and roll on up knowing that it will take it down easy

thats what I was thinking but does it actually work that way? does that buffer really help the stability?

Set the FSB up to 266 and make sure u set your motherboard and CPU up to a speed at which they overclock w/ stability up to. Some times RAM dividers on certain multipliers(all odd and .5 mults) will cause it not to run at the speed shown in the BIOS, so if you are going to have to change your CPU mult, in order to set the FSB that high, avoid those multipliers. If anything, just try to find a setting that allows your memory to come close to that speed...the best way to do it is just continue to benchmark and find out what gives you the best performance.

EDIT: RAM divider will work with CPU speed not FSB directly, so if the RAM divider is 6 (all mults 10.5, 11, 11.5, 12) you will have the same CPU clock to RAM speed. So if you want DDR2 800 the cpu speed, with one of those CPU mult.s, will always be 2.4GHz(the only thing that changes will be your HT); the same goes with any and all other mult.sround up to the nearest even CPU mult, divide by 2 and you will get a number. Take that number and divide your total CPU clock by that and you will get one half your effective RAM speed. Its simple math.
