Default Can i run DDR600 with this board?

hey guys, found 2GB Mushkin XP4400 DDR600 Memory pretty cheap(as you know anything this speed in ddr is hard to find); and im just wondering if i can use it with my mobo (ga k8n pro sli).
all i can find on the GB website is "supports ddr400"

1. can i run it?
2. is it worth it, if i can get it under say...200?

thanks

1. yes, the RAM speed supported by the mobo is always given at stock speeds. Now, we don't run stock speeds here, do we now
2. yes, provided it has good timings (AMD is quite sensitive to timings).

I should have caught this right away... it's DDR550 Not bad, but it's not DDR600.

You said yourself it's PC4400, and 4400/8 = 550. Plus, on the link you gave me it's listed at DDR550.

Looks good to me though... CAS2.5 at DDR550 is great

haha wow no kidding , thats what i get for trusting item description . i also should have noticed that (even after i read the actual product page).

im not much of a ram wiz, do you think i would see much of a performance increase? after all...ddr400 is well...fail

Too bad this kit was sold already:
http://www.overclock.net/sale/319173...hz-ddr500.html

I am still linking it just to give you an idea. I think $200 for 4x512MB of the Mushkin RAM is overpriced. $125 max I'd say.

Don't pay $200!

It's not worth it, seriously.

2 x 1GB of G.Skill HZ - say, $140 max in the current markets.

With 4 sticks it will automatically default to DDR333, meaning you'll have to overclock a lot to benefit from it, plus because the memory controller will be stretched more you won't be able to overclock as high.

Pay $100 - if you can't get it for cheaper than that, then your better off upgrading I'm sorry to say

The defaulting to DDR333 speeds only happend with older revisions of the socket 939 AMD chips. I think his Opty will be just fine with four sticks.

I have to agree, 200 is a bit pricey. Its nice ram, good quality, but I mean, $200??? Too rich for my blood. For 200 you could get an AM2 platform and would be able to get better, faster ram, for an extra 50 bucks or so...
