hi there everyone! ive bought 4GB of memore, but vista 32 bit will only recognise 3GB, now i knew this when i bough it, and was ok with that, as i might upgrade to 64 bit at some point anyway. but now ive heard rumours that theres a patch you can get for vista 32 bit which will enable it to recognise the whole 4GB, is this true???? cheers guys

No, the 32bit achitecture will only recognize up to 4gb of total memory which includes your video card and such. Your 32bit OS will only ever recognize ~3gb of your 4gb of ram.

No, it is not true.
You need a 64-bit OS to recognize more than 4GB of RAM (Video RAM included). 64-bit OS's can get 16 Exobytes (I think).

the patch you are talking about is probably SP1. With SP1, the OS will tell you that you have 4Gb installed, but in fact will use the same amount as pre-SP1.

64-bit marginally hurts performance but is overall beneficial. Please read: http://www.bit-tech.net/bits/2007/10...just_the_ram/1

64 will recognize all 4gb, versus 32bit lying, and saying 4gb but only being able to use 3-3.5.
64bit is kinda iffy for some things as not everything has 64bit support yet, so certain programs may be confused, and certain drivers not exist yet. Its not mainstream yet, so just be patient, its coming.
