Default RAM Issue

Hello I am running on an Asus A8n-E mobo and I just recently upgraded to 4 gigs ddr1 ram (it sux cuz it can only do ddr1 but o well ha ha)

I notice that when I went into "my computer" properies... it only said I have 3 gb instead of 4. I initially thought I had a bad ram stick.. but I checked all of them and when ever I take out a stick and restart.. it always says I have 3 gb. That shows me that it is not the sticks that are the problem...

So what CAN be the problem? I want to make sure I am using all the ram I bought.

This is the classic "4GB of RAM with a 32 bit OS"
Do the Google for '4GB ram in xp', there are over 10 million hits.
