Very true that they make D9 2GB modules. People hear D9 and think of the D9GMH and D9GKX which were both doubled sided 1GB modules sold commonly in 2x1GB sets such as Crucial Ballistix and many many others. D9HNL is a more dense version and appears as single sided 1GB modules and double sided 2GB modules (2x2GB sets).

Your post just hit me as a little misleading in the wording. I just wanted to make sure it is clear to readers that the doubled sided 2GB modules are NOT the same D9 chips on the very overclockable 1GB modules we all knew and loved 1.5-3 years ago. Those 1GB modules were doubled sided D9GMH and GKX and are out of production as far as I know. Most current 1GB modules still using D9's now use the more dense D9HNL and GSV, the same ICs used in 2GB modules. However, since only 1GB is needed, they now come single sided.

So a single sided D9HNL has the same memory as a less dense but double sided D9GMH. So the problem of going from 1GB to 2GB modules wasn't as simple as lets just make them double sided as they were already double sided. They had to develop new, more dense IC's and kept the double sided concept, but switched to single sided 1GB modules using the same denser IC to cut costs by only manufacturing one type of IC instead of two.

And good post by the way, definitely a lot of confusion over AMD memory overclocking in these forums as not many people help out in the AMD memory section. Keep on educating

Thank you for the more detailed explanation! I can see where my wording may have been confusing, but your post is very clear on its explanation, and even includes information I wasn't privy to.

Thanks for the kind words though, I know not a lot of people come to this forum but I didn't want to post it somewhere it was irrelevant. Hopefully people gain something from it

I'm going to have to stop in Figlio sometime soon...

Essentially what this means, is as long as you are only running 2 DIMMS in Dual Channel, you will be perfectly fine (example, a 2x2gb pair).

Any setups involving more than 2 DIMMs (ie., 3x2gb or 4x2gb, 4x1gb... and so on) will give you problems. You can try underclocking your RAM, but you might as well buy DDR2 800 RAM with tighter timings

Just thought some members would benefit from this info!
I'm confused.... You say that it will run fine with 2 DIMMs in dual channel(which I am doing), it will work... but mine does not. Apparently you have to run one in each channel then it will work.

You should be able to run it... have you updated your BIOS? I know BIOS updates on my board primarily focused on increasing stability at 1066. Try updating the BIOS.

Also, try manually setting the voltage to what corsair recommends and try manually setting your memory timings (just ensure nothing is set to "Auto").

Yeah I've done the BIOS update. All timings and voltages set to recommended settings. Guess I have to blame AMD for this one.... thanks anyway
