Default 1066 Ram Showing as pc 6400...***?

Just recently ordered some Kingston HyperX ram. http://www.ec.kingston.com/ecom/conf...G&promo=hx2shp specifically.

All the paperwork, etc, says its 1066Mhz @ 2.2v. The mobo auto detects it at 800mhz, with the default 1.8v. I manually set it to x5.33(1066) and set the voltage as high as my mobo will allow, which is 2.175v.

CPUZ is detecting the ram as pc 6400 800hmz ram. Is there an issue, or is it just a display issue? I just cant figure out why PC2-8500 ram is being detected as 6400.

You'll have to go into the BIOS and manually set the clock speed, timings, and voltage.

EDIT; Sorry i didn't read the whole post.

Well, it's running at 1066..... don't know why it wouldn't be detected as PC2-8500 though....
You should also be able to adjust the timings down to 5-5-5-15 according to the specs on the site you linked to.

my ram reads as PC-6400 as well.

as long as its running at the rated speeds (533mhz), don't worry about it

and if its not, you have to change it in the bios as many computers default to 400mhz at stock fsb

Yea, I got it all manually changed over, including timings once I took a closer look at my screenshots and seen they were off. I was just curious as to why it detected it oddly. No worries then, thanks.

I dont see any problem. The last two tabs shows the divider scaling, not the actual speed. Your actual speed is the first tab, but it does look like you could tighten the timings alittle. Try 5-5-5-15(or 18).

Have you got this running at 5-5-5-15 @ 1066Mhz now? I ask as I've got the same RAM on a MA780G-UD3H and I can't run it at anything other than the Auto settings of 5-7-7-24 @ 1066Mhz.

If you're also stuck at those settings, you might want to try lowering the voltage as I'm running at default (1.96v) without any problems.

Well for one. Kingston bins all their RAM at stock DDR2-800 as it is stated at 1.8v. It will always boot at that, they have a very tight bin system and regulate their RAM very closley. I also have a set and its the same thing. From what I can tell you RAM will run at 1066@5-5-5-15(18) at 2.1v. Thats the way Kingston does it. It just garantees that you will get what you pay for, and it will run at those timings, speeds, and voltage.

I would try upping your voltatge to 2.1v-2.2v. The T1 version specs state they run at 2.2v kids!

Thanks, but I was aware that this RAM is specced to run at those timings at 2.2v and have already tried it and it just won't work. I asked Kingston and they just said that this RAM is not recommended for my board and that I should return it and buy their PC6400 RAM instead

they didnt make PC2 8500 dimms then, (they do now) so ram above 800mhz was just high binned overclocked lower ram, like my old OCZ was actually PC2 5300 but ran at 1066 at 1.9

Man, Kingston are dumb. Turned out I just needed to change the Trfc from 127.5ns to 195ns to get these sticks to work at 1066Mhz@5-5-5-15. I found this info on the OCZ forums and it seems this is the proper setting for 2GB sticks running at 533mhz. If I'd relied on what Kingston had told me, I would have returned their product and bought one of their competitors.

Now, after all that, it seems I get slightly better results with the RAM @ 5-7-7-24 anyway For example, in Passmark Performance Test, I get a Memory Mark of 802.8 @ 5-7-7-24 vs 794.9 @ 5-5-5-15 and in Everest Ultimate v5 Benchmark, I get the following @ 5-7-7-24 and 5-5-5-15.
