Default overclocking ram.. anything in particular i should know?

hey,

i am going to be overclocking this ram.

currently it runs fine on 1600mhz 7-7-7-20 @ 1.9v on my ga-ma790ftx-ud5p motherboard
this motherboard can apparently run ram at 1666mhz so i want to go that far.

would i be able to run it at 1666mhz at the 7-7-7-20 timings, or maybe even lower? (or just stay at 7-7-7-20 to be safe?)
also, should i be upping the ram voltage even more if it becomes unstable? if so, how much is the max i should go? (i probably wont go to the max just want to know it so i dont go over it!)

thanks

Yeah a 66mhz overclock on default timings sound pretty easy, I think that would work. And 1.9v is already relativly high for DDR3, I wouldn't give it more then 1.95 - 2.0v.

I would watch out, 1.9v is already high as hell for ddr3.

Yer i have heard/read that it was high for ddr3.. but patriot have said themselves it is suppose to run on that voltage.
i should try running it lower maybe and see if it is stable? voltage that is (at 1600mhz 7-7-7-20)

i also have arctic cooling rc ram cooling on them so they run a bit cooler so hopefully that helps

Nah, it's rated for 1.9v so it will work just fine at that voltage. I just wanted to point out that you shouldn't raise it to 2.2v or something.

bumping/adding to this post instead of creating a new one..

so tune ram timings better, wat do i do exactly?

try the ram at 6-7-7-20 and see if it boots? also run 1 test of memtest86+ so see if it get errors?
then try 6-6-7-20 and so on?
if that doesnt work then try 7-6-7-20 and so on?

..basically fiddle with it and test it with memtest86+ to see if it is stable?
