Default Which Mushkin XP DDR3 Dual Channel Kit to buy - Newegg has 2 identical??????

I'm bored and terrible with money so I want to upgrade my DDR3 Ram to something better. Thinking about going Mushkin because they seem to offer the best speed with tightest timings and have a good reputation reaching advertised ratings.

Newegg lists two Mushkin XP 2x2gig kits with identical bandwidth (1600mhz) and timings 7-7-6-18
Here is a link comparing the two

Now I see the voltage rating is different - but other than that I see nothing, so which one is better? Oh btw the first one doesn't say it's "XP" but looking that part number up on Mushkins website it clearly is. Link

Strange thing is the more expensive one, model #996625 isn't even listed on Mushkins website.

Please let me know if I'm overlooking something or if you have a recommendation for a RAM that you think is better than either of these two.

The more expensive kit are their "Ascent" line. It's supposed to be better somehow. The other is their regular XP line that came out before the Ascents. I've heard good and bad things about the Ascents, but I've heard more good things about the XPs. However, I think that was because they were so new at the time I was hearing things about them.

So, if money isn't that much of an issue, then I guess get the Ascents (the more expensive ones). I know they don't say "Ascent", but I recognized the heatsinks.

Not only do you have a great eye but you know your memory because I google'd Mushkin Ascent and found it on Mushkins website (strange that I can't find that memory navigating their website from the homepage) but you are without a doubt 100% correct. Thanks!

You're very welcome, MikeD. I'm grateful to have been able to help differentiate them!

May I also rack your brain about a brand of Mushkin?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820146828

How does this ram rank up vs the previous 2? the price difference from the $94 to the $119 doesnt really bother me, so in your opinion which one would you think performs better?

board will be a MSI 790FX-GD70

While still pretty decent memory, their HP series is supposed to be inferior to the XP series, and the XP series is supposed to be inferior to the Ascent.

So, if I could easily afford either these XP or Ascent kits, then I would definitely get them instead. Not only that, but these HPs listed have the following timings: 8-8-8-24. The XP and Ascents both have 7-7-6-18. So, that's another reason why I would get the XP or Ascent kits.

I would have provided my personal experience with the HPs and XPs, but my motherboard is very different from MSI 790FX-GD70. Plus, I have DDR2. However, I will say that I like the XPs much better than the HPs.

Not to be condisending ****, but you seem a bit confused, Ascent kits soully refer to the "Ascent" heat spreader and offer no performance increase what so ever. I think you mean "Redline" are their highest performance kits. XP and Redline both come in the "Ascent" and "Frostbite" heatspreader flavors. Ascent uses a type of heatpipe to disperse heat "Better."

I'm not confused, actually. I am fully aware of the Redlines. I'm also fully aware that mushkin offers the Ascent heatspreader on both the XP and Redlines. But we're not talking about the Redlines in this thread. We're just talking about the Frostbite XPs, the Ascent XPs (but it's much easier to just say "XPs" and "Ascents" in this thread since we know what we're referring to), and now the HPs.

I was just sticking to the context of this thread, that's all. I'm sorry for appearing to be wrong on the internet.

When I got my mushkins I was a bit confused too. I originally wanted the acsents but got the frostbite instead. Anyway, I fully understood what TwoCables was stating.

My apologies then...*pulls at collar* I would just go with the vanilla XPs they are cheaper and I haven't seen proof that the Ascents really even work better than any other heatspreader.
