Default VERY strange memory problem

So here's what happened. I have been running windows 7 for about a month. Everything has been working just fine. So I went out and bought myself the zalman cnps9700 heat-sink. So i pulled the stock cooler off, reapplied some artic silver, and mounted heat-sink. (did not need to add new brackets or remove motherboard) I turned the computer back on, and nothing. Black screen and no beeps. rebuilt on cardboard box with only video card and processor, same problem persists. put back in case and got system to POST, but would freeze when trying to load from either a cd or hdd. Here's where it gets kinda weird... So I removed all memory sticks but one ( I have 2x corsair balixstix 1gb and 2x 2Gb mushkin) and system would boot. trying all sticks in all slots (individually) the only problem was one of the mushkin sticks wouldn't boot in the 2nd slot. When trying to add all 4 sticks, it was a trial and error procedure. I could get any three sticks to boot just fine in any slots. but add the fourth, and there is only one configuration that lets me boot.
Any comments would be Greatly appreciated.

I know exactly how you feel. I had that exact motherboard a year ago, and had the same issue. It really ticked me off to. Since the motherboard specs say 8GB ram max. I could never get more than 2 ram sticks to work in my M3A32 MVP deluxe. There is no way around it, its just a bad motherboard fabrication or something. Iv switched over to GA and never and an issue with this great motherboard.

well I'm glad to know that it's just a crappy mobo. A few months after I bought it, it started to re-boot non stop, power button wouldn't work, only power on via the switch on the psu. I sent it back to asus two times before it got fixed. I don't think that I will EVER buy an asus board again.
