Ok, so I'm doing a new build and I ordered the first few parts yesterday. I picked the DFI 790FXB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813136067
I noticed that this board was coupled with some nice DDR3 memory for a $30 dollar discount, so i decided to put that in the bag also, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145200 However, this save seems a little bittersweet, after reading deeper into the reviews and looking more closely at the pictures, the RAM fins to dissipate heat are very, very tall. This, along with the fact that the motherboard I ordered places the DIMMs directly next to each other, seems that it will hinder my desire to air-cool my CPU with some very popular aftermarket devices like the megahalem, dark knight, or True. I will probably throw in some water cooling after a while, but I really wanted to try my hand at lapping a nice air cooler to see what it could do. I'm not very good at all when it comes to RAM or its setup on the motherboard, so i was wondering if I could setup the RAM in the orange sockets to keep it futher from the CPU, or if anyone has this mobo/RAM, and could give me some advice? any help would be much appreciated, thanks!

Putting the ram in the orange slots wouldn't make any difference.
