Default Dual channel or not?

Ok I have a choice, 8gb single channel or 4gb dual channel.

What would be better for gaming? 8gb of ram I know is overkill but I ended up with that much out of a mistake, if I lose performance from going single channel 8gb ill just give the other 4gb to my bro.

Anyways I don't have the mobo to test it yet so what would be faster?

Thx.

For gaming? 4GB dual channel would be slightly better. Games don't use more than 2GB basically so anything much more is not used. However, the benefits of dual-channel are pretty marginal.

While the benefits of dual-channel for gaming are marginal, the benefit for 8GB is none.

not sure why your not able to run 8gb in dual channel, unless they are differnt sets / revision chips, I needed to manually set mine to get my 5-4-4-15 and dual channel in my 680i lt bios. I noticed that when doing multiple encodings and playing 2 games afk in background and 1 in foreground that my system was more responsive then when i had 4gb in dualchan, but i'm not sure how many ppl encode w/ multiple programs and run 3 games @ the same time.

LOL... yeah, that's a bit more extreme use of RAM than most users.

^this - it's marginal and generally wont translate to a benifit you'll notice other than in benches. Even then it's marginal from everything I've read. I still run mine in dual channel just because I can.

The MB ony supports up to 4GB in dual channel, and 8GB not in dual channel.
Its a " ASUS M3N-HT Deluxe/HDMI AM2+/AM2"

Im gonna just try both and see what is better, but im guessing that 4GB in dual chan will be enough but I like the idea of running multiple games in the background lol.
