Default Memory cost, why is it rising?!

Why in the world does the cost of memory keep going up? A set 2x2GB of G.Skill DDR3 1600 cost me about 72 bucks earlier this year, now it's up to 91 dollars, I'm tempted to do it but come on this is ridiculous! I know there is a reason for this, anyone have any documentation and will it ever go down again?

DDR2 is being''phased out'' in favour of DDR3,hence the higher prices.

Same thing happened with DDR when DDR2 was around for a while,it will rise and then stabilise but I doubt it will go down again

the manufacturers glutted the DRAM market and the price dropped to where their budgets were adversely affected.

they slowed/stopped production and the market's balancing out.

at least that's how I understand the situation

It's still frustrating, granted I remember when I paid about 200 dollars for Corsair Value Ram DDR400 for a 2GB kit. Oh how the times change.

supply and demand. the supply is dwindling and the demand less, makes items more expensive because theres less available and an incentive for businesses to offer less to customers in favour of something more demanded, if demand and supply are both high, prices sit midway, if demand is midway and supply is high, prices drop, if demand is high and supply is low prices go very high

life sucks like that but what can ya doo

Back in late spring when I built this rig, I couldn't believe how cheap ram was. In fact, it was so cheap that I bought a spare set just to tinker(different brand and specs) with and have as a backup.

All of us have been buying RAM that was sold below the cost of production. Anymore questions? Yes the normal market adjustment for DDR2 is coming into play. But overall there is also major market adjustment going on. Product x costs y to produce. Sold at y-z. That is not tenable. We have been blessed these last few years. Get ready to pay more. DDR3 might keep dropping as was priced high like all new tech. Will never see DDR2 prices.
