Hi
I am updating my ram. I am going to buy Transcend 2 GB DDR2(800 mhz) ram. But i dont understand weather to buy one stick of 2 GB ram or two sticks of 1GB ram? ![]() I am using it with AMD X2 250 processor. My mobo supports dual channel memory. Does dual channel memory really improve performance? |

Yes it does,
__________________You need to get them in pairs. You'll get a 2GB kit which will contain 2x1GB strips. Or a 4GB kit, which is 2x2GB strips. If I were you though, i'd get 2x2GB strips, that'll help ya out a lot :-D just my 2Cents though Regards, Comps

Firstly, how many RAM slots do you have on your motherboard?
__________________If there are only two slots, then I'd go for the single 2GB stick purely for future upgrade potential (Maybe add another 2GB stick down the road or something....You could always buy the same model of RAM in the future to make the two sticks operate in dual channel). However, if you are not really doing anything RAM extensive(Latest video games, photoshop, Vista/Windows 7, etc...) and you are running Windows XP or Linux, then I would go for the 2x 1GB. Future upgrades will likely be more expensive down the road, though....Something you have to consider. The best option, option C , really is to go for the 2x 2GB like compuman145 stated. 4GB is really the par for most things these days. You could probably find 4GB of RAM for ~$50 on eBay or maybe in the 'For Sale' section here at OCN. ![]() Hope it works out! Ask if you have any questions.
