Default barely overclockable?

I got the asus crosshair, an amd x2 5200+, 2x1gb corsair xms ddr800 4-4-4-12 timing and a 750w thermaltake modular psu.
Is there any reason you can see I shouldn't be able to go above 218mhz fsb when I set the dram to ddr667 and HT multi to 4x?
I even upped the cpu voltage a tad, and it just can't seem to go above 218x13 for the cpu.
Its kinda disappointing really, I had a lot better luck with my socket 754 2800+

Have you tried giving it more voltage? If your ram won't run at those speeds you can return it and get your money back since it is listed as DDR2800.

Well...the system boots fine with the ram at stock timings and voltage and at 808mhz, so its fine at stock...I think the CPU can't handle it...which is a real shocker for me...

Well, I had a simuliar situation.

I had a sempron 3100+ that I ran at 267 X 9, at DDR 437, HT of 1602 mhz.
This things smoked and i loved it.

But I got the upgrade bug about 6 months later, and got a deal on a Athlon 64 3400+. I was soo hoping for 2.8 or 2.9 GHZ stable. (since it was the low watt venice core)

But low and behold, the best I could get stable was 2.64 GZ, but it performed the best at 2.6 GHZ DDR 432 HT of 1736.

The conclusion that I drew myself from this was that 2.6 GHZ was the max speed for these chips, I was at the cealing. I too tried several voltage and multiplier changes, even had my Ram up to 2.8V, and my CPU at 1.65 V.

In the future I will not be buying anymore top of the line CPU's, since I get more bang for the buck By overclocking the lower ones.

My moneys on the memory man. Try setting it to the next lowest DDR2 setting (below 667) and see how far you can take the proc.

If that doesnt work, do the opposite. Lower your CPU multi down a notch and try to get you mem as high as you can, to see which one is crapping out.

I would also check that PSU of yours for stability on the rails... Modular PSU's arent the best for OC'ing . Good Luck !

Well I read a review that they couldn't get the rails on this psu to budge voltage -wise, even at 95% load.

Disable all spectrums and lock the PCI at 100 mhz or set it at 100 mhz w/e you have to do. Also make sure the RAM is at the right voltage.

your ram might not be able to run @ the lower speed...not all ddr 800 is able to run @ 667...mine will not run below 700mhz.
