Default Chipset/vcore heatsink lapping?

Is there any point in lapping bridge and vcore heat sinks? I found out that the heat sinks on my mobo are using some cheap thermal pads to transfer heat, so I was planning on removing them and applying some AS5 instead. Should I consider lapping them for even better cooling?

I have two small fans that sound like jet engines I want to be able to turn down as much as possible - this is why I ask.

Here for a look at the fans and heat sinks:

Lapping the sinks just makes sure the sinks are flat and make better contact with the chip. Thus resulting in better heat transfer. It would'nt hurt and may result in lower temps. Try it

yea, whenever and wherever you can, fixing up those lame heatsinks will help - its mostly a matter of whether you have time to do it right, and do you really need your manufacturer's warranty... although the mobo moanufacturer may not even notice this little mod anyways, so I say go for it, AS5 and lapping all around
