Default Asus Crosshair Bios Flash

Ok, Ive recently had to clear my CMOS (too trigger happy with the CPU frequency).

Now, im currently on BIOS revision 0702. Im wondering whether to flash to bios 0902. I say this because I will be upgrading this to a phenom machine when they come out, so i want to have a mobo that is compatible. also, im out for any sort of extra headroom with overclocking.

Ive never flashed a BIOS before. I have a USB drive and the bios file on it. Do i go through the asus EZFLASH, or is there another way?

The Asus EZFLASH can be a funny bugger. I've had a few probs with it. Better way is - There's a bios flashing program you can download from asus, it's called AFUDOS (or something similar). Basically, make a bootable floppy from within windows (format, click box that says ms-dos boot disk). Prepare a second floppy with the bios on it, plus the AFUDOS program. Now, reset your bios settings to default, and clear CMOS (using jumper). Now, boot up into ms-dos using the boot disk (if you reset to defaults you'll probably have to change the boot order in bios now). Once booted, swap disks to the one with bios on. Then, type AFUDOS /ibiosname, so if bios is named FRED, then you'd type AFUDOS /iFRED . The program will do its work, and ta-da, nice new bios!

Thanks for the help, but unfortunately, I dont have a floppy drive. I HAVE to do this via USB.

Of course, im looking for the safest way to go about this, so Im open to suggestions.

I want this board to be phenom ready, and nice as a quadfire 790FX sounds, I cant justify buying a new board

you could always flash it from within windows using the asusupdate utility. then you dont need a floppy or a usb drive

some like it and some wouldnt touch it with a grenade launcher. personally i have used it and it worked fine. yrmv

Right, Im prolly gonna use EZFLASH2 with my USB drive, coz it seems like the easiest way to go about things.

But, I need to know which BIOS version will be best for me. Im currently on Vers 0702.

I was looking into either the 0804 BIOS or the 0902. But asus has 2 different versions of each BIOS, 'DOS' and 'ALL OS'.

I figured that i should go with the all os option, but if im wrong, someone please point me out, and point me in the direction of the best PHENOM COMPATIBLE BIOS for my board.

I know im asking a lot, but I really dont want to screw my board, as I cant afford to replace it.

I don't know about your particular motherboard, but you generally want the newest BIOS for best new CPU support. Also, you're going to want the All OS one, I don't think you're going to want to run DOS...

i have used the EZFLASH utility and its pretty straight forward, put the USB flash drive in boot up the compy, go into bios then EZFLASH then select your bin file and it will check it for you then ask if it is the correct one then over right the old one. and yes use the newest bios. when i did mine i didnt have a regular usb drive sitting anywere around so i ended up using my cell phone to upload the .bin file
