What memory speed do I need for these processors? Is DDR2 5400mhz enough or should i go for 6000 ?

Thanks for all the anwers!
You should go for PC2-6400 I think, the extra speed is better.

Since that computer was around the price range then I think thats about the best you could get. Although change the RAM to this:

Fixed the typo, why would you have the E2180 rather than say an E4500? Obviously the E2180 is cheaper and may leave more overclocking headroom, you could easily hit 9x300FSB on that chip with no worries at all, but doesn't the E4500 have slightly better performance anyway? Since its actually a Core 2 Duo?

It doesn't really matter about percentage overclocks, thats just a measure of how much a CPU is overclocked on itself. The E4500 is stock at 2.2Ghz, meaning a 100% overclock on that would mean 4.4Ghz, not likely. However my E2140 is only 1.6Ghz stock, so a 3.2Ghz overclock is far more realistic.

You could take an E4500 to 3.2Ghz, it would be faster than the E2140 at 3Ghz but it does cost more money. But, if you've got that money to spend then you may aswell use it all for the performance.

If I were you i'd choose the E4500, its worth the extra cash.

actually the E21x0 series are all core 2 duo, they have the exact same architecture unlike pentium D's.The only difference is a smaller cache but one MB of cache isn't going to make a huge difference especially if your paying an extra 30 dollars for it.

and a E2180 have been known to overclock to over 3.0Ghz on stock cooling

The higher CPU cache will come into play with high system demanding programs like video editing or CAD and provide better performance.

QFT. I suggest the E4xxx range, or the E6xxx range if you can push your budget.

All right. Ive decided to go for the E4400, now all I have to decide is what motherboard and RAM to get. The website I´m buying from has the following RAM options:
all DDR2 6400 : OCZ 2GB XTC Platinum, OCZ 2GB XTC Gold and Corsair XMS2 2GB 5-5-5-12

And what motherboard would you guys recommend? Thats within the pricerange of course.

Thanks again!
