Im updating my brothers old 939 system to AM2. He doesnt use his computer for any videogames or such and the only task he does that would "challenge the computer" would be his video editing. Im looking to keep a low budget.
__________________What motherboard is suitable for his needs? Im looking for something in the pricerange of a 100 dollars if Im looking to overclock a little aswell. Im thinking of going for the AMD 5200+ procerssor and some 2GB memory. Any help would be very much appreciated!

If hes only doing video editing it would probably be cheaper/better to get a 21X0 series cpu. 2GB of ram should be fine, and I don't know much about intel mobos.

Does it have to be AMD?
An Intel system may be cheaper and quicker for his needs. For example: Mobo: Asus P5K: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131189 CPU Intel Dual Core E2180: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819116052 or Intel Core 2 Duo E4500: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115031 Memory OCZ 2GB Kit http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820227120 Graphics Card XFX 8400GS (for movies and Vista..etc) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150246 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150246

Brisbane 4400+ and Biostar TF560
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103206 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...8081&Tpk=tf560 Should do 3.0 GB easily enough. That mobo is one of the best AM2 non-sli boards around. Can do up to 355HT and has a full compliment of OC options.

If he really isn't going to be playing games and such, then it is probably going to be a waste to go to upgrade the socket platform. Like ericeod said, you might be better off looking for a s939 x2 and save some cash.

Edit: How much do you have to spend for the PC? Also which parts specifically? I could add you a system or two up.

Well the problem is that Im in Sweden and the costs vary a little from in America. But the system you put together with the Asus P5K motherboard and a intel E4400 processor along with some memory was within the pricerange. Is that the best possible combination for that price?
__________________What memory speed do I need for these processors? Is DDR2 5400mhz enough or should i go for 6000 ? Thanks for all the anwers!
