You clear CMOS usually by shorting two pins. They should be labeled in the silkscreened printing on the motherboard. Removing the battery is not necessary nor (in my opinion) even effective at doing anything. But others disagree.

The CMOS jumper is at the bottom of the board, to the right of the reddish looking parallel port header. Unplug the system, set it over 1 pin for about 5 seconds, set it back, power on.

Removing the battery for 15 seconds has always worked for me when I can't find the jumper. I also press the power button with the battery removed and the system unplugged. Lights usually flash for a fraction of a second, then I wait.

Unless you lack opposable thumbs you shouldn't have any issues removeing the CMOS battery.

shorting the pins cuts the power, so removing the battery and shorting the pins do the same thing. either way, no power = no settings are retained.

2 sides of the battery socket are usually raised and act as a clip, holding the battery in. using a fingernail, lift up on the edge of the battery at one of the sides that isnt raised and it will come out. they are in there tight, but it will lift out and is only held in by the spring force of the raised side of the socket
