Default Before you buy a DFI 790FX-M2R you should read this

Well I have two issues that I can't get past yet. As a background I have two of these boards here are the stats of the two systems, then the issues.

System 1 - AMD 6000x2, DFI 790fx-m2r, gskill hz 2x1gb, 160gb wd hdd, evga 8800gts 320, mushkin 580w, sony dvd-rw, xion onyx.

System 2- AMD 5000x2 Black Edition, DFI 790fx-m2r, gskill hz 2x1gb, 80gb seagate hdd, BFG 7600GT OC, Rosewill 550W, Lite-ON dvd-rw, Apevia x-cruiser.

#1 Speedfan program doesn't work. Either board, with either cpu the computer hard locks and need a reboot. I find that coretemp is accurate on my 6000 windsor but not the 5000 brisbane. I find that smart guardian is good for the 5000 but not the 6000.

#2 Gskill HK 2x1gb ram isn't compatible with overclocking at all.(I know someone posted that it is but he must be an exception) I have one set of sticks, my friend has two. We tried each stick singlely and dual and random matchs and they won't run at stock speeds of 4-4-3-5 2t 800mhz. They will not run over 820mhz no matter what we did. They also won't run at 1t on these boards. We used to have matching Evga 590sli boards and were able to get them to run 4-4-3-5 1t @ 820mhz, or 4-4-3-5 2t @ 1040mhz. So if you have HK's they don't work. The good news is that HZ's do, in fact I have one set of hz's at 1106mhz, and the other at 1066mhz stable.

give speedfan a month or two... they'll support the board...

as for the ram, might want to try a little more voltage if they worked with the 590

so what does that have to do with the board?

Sound more like your poor selection of parts to me...

it's been reported all over the WEB that speedfan isnt working on some of these boards (search it)

All boards are fussy with memory...why are you knocking an Enthusiast board engineered to run high end memory not the cheap stuff?

Windsor and Brisbane are TOTALLY 2 different chips....any one who knows anything about Brisbanes know the sensors are off from day one like 2 years ago....

Again nothing to do with the board....

man seriously...before you bash stuff do your homework and make sure you have a legit complaint....I am not a world biggest DFI fan anymore but yet I am smart enough to know NONE of the issues you post have anything to do with the board you post....seriously...

DFI boards and speedfan don't get along. My old Ultra-D system would lock up when speedfan would start to load, and so does my P35-T2R...

You need to read and comprehend what you have read before you start ripping me apart. I was stating that speedfan doesn't work with the board. And as a side note that happens to leave you with only a few options for temp monitoring, one of them is coretemp which is known to misread brisbane cores. I was also pointing out that dfi's smartguardian is a good program.

And gskill HK's are not value ram, running 4-4-3-5 800 1t isn't what value ram does. Hk's were one step down from the HZ's, then there are value rams. Its not d9 but still amazing ram. Its incompatible with THIS dfi board, in an overclock capacity. It has nothing to do with the ram, the ram does fine in every other board I have put it in to.

I am not sure why your so pissed off over my observations, I am not saying to not buy this board, I am saying these are two things you need to know and consider before you buy it. I guess I should add the positives of this board as well but I assumed everyone would know that I am stating the two negative and as such I have no other complaints with the board.

And to LiNERROR- I kind of doubt it as the board has been out since November 2007, but I hope your right.

not pissed at all dude...

Everyone know Speedfan dont work with DFI boards...Smartgaurdian does but it also is off on Brisbane temps as are most all boards...even Everest is...

HK's may not be labeled value ram but they aint far from it...just ram binned slightly over it... Sure it may do CAS 4 but who cares it may not do CAS5 or higher than stock fsb's....Not really the point...point is if it aint D9's it may NOT work well in a DFI board and even D9s are iffy by some brands

Point is before someone jumps and buys parts they think will work they should do some searching and find out what works and what doesnt...

Building a DFI system is like building a hotrod...you just cant go buy a basket full of hotrod parts and get a smooth running fast rod...you must buy the right parts...IE buying Ford parts for a Chevy build...all you end up is with a piss poor bag of mixed parts which is what you have...

As has been said since back in NF2 days of DFI...some some works and some stuff doesnt but dont blame and makers for your poor purchase decisions... you wouldnt be near as upset if you would have chosen the right parts for that DFI board and it was flying faster than any other rig now would you?

Dont hate me man...hate the game...

Not many boards (with AMD chips at least) can do 1T. Not much difference in terms of performance compared to 2T anyway. Also, DFI boards are know for their nitpicking when it comes to things like RAM.

Speedfan does work with DFI boards you just need to set exceptions. You wont be able to adjust anything but you can see temps. I will post the exception codes later. These were per instruction by the creator of Speedfan.

EDIT: Try these /NOSUPERIO /NOSMBSCAN /NOSMARTSCAN Try them all together then remove one as you go to find the problem.
