Post Official [SMT] DFI Lanparty DK 790FX-M2RS + AMD Phenom 9850 BE Thread

I have changed this OP for the purposes of helping those who have just received this setup. I will continually add information as I learn more and have time, and encourage you all to contribute, so we can all have a good database to draw from when OCing this MB/CPU combination.

First, here are some links to threads, forums, and downloads that I have found useful in my search for knowledge. Some are from this great forum, and some from other website many here consider very reputable.

Links to the items at NewEgg.com. It's a great place to read specifications and review, even if you already have the gear.

Useful Downloads

- OCN Download Page - I use CPUZ and HWMonitor for info, and Prime95 blend test for stress testing ( uses all 4 cores ), and 3Dmark to measure performance. These are all widely used and accepted OCing utilities.

Congrats on the OC.... good job! I believe that the HT multi is under Genie BIOS, then HT Link Control, then HT Link Frequency.... I'm still trying to find the EPP for you.
edit: (sorry, my mistake.... EPP is for Nvidia chipsets, not AMD)

Hope that helps.... good luck!

Thanks, that just looks like a minimum HT speed setting though. I'm looking for the HT multiplier that calculates the HT speed, enabling me to OC my ram more than this.

Is there a way other than low dividers that will speed up ram?

OpticWaves.... if I'm not mistaken, the frequency settings correspond to HT multipliers, such as: 1Ghz=5x, 800Mhz=4x, 600Mhz=3x, etc.

It doesn't seem to have any effect on the HT speed as it should. I also need to get stable at higher clocks to be able to utilize a lower HT anyway.

Does the DFI LANPARTY DK 790FX-M2RS actually support DDR2 1066? Because according to the specs on NewEgg it only supports DDR2 800.

Ok i'm confused OpticWaves, your sig says that you are running DDR2 1066, but what you seem to indicate is your running 800.

Because this is what I was thinking of going with
  • DFI LANPARTY DK 790FX-M2RS AM2+/AM2 AMD 790FX ATX
  • AMD Phenom 9850 BLACK EDITION 2.5GHz Socket AM2+ 125W Quad-Core
  • CORSAIR DOMINATOR 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500)

I don't remember the exact settings (board is out on RMA), but I believe there is a "HTT Frequency" or something similar, with 1GHz, 800MHz, 600MHz, 400MHz, and 200MHz, corresponding to x5, x4, x3, x2, x1 respectively.
The RAM dividers are rather limited compared to other DFI boards I have used; 800, 667, 533, and 400, with 1066 I guess being only available for Phenoms. The board could do very little above 800MHz, with the rated 1000MHz of my sticks being impossible to reach. This is due to a timing limitation (mine need a trc of 45 and the board only goes to 26 I think). My old Asus couldn't achieve those speeds either, except for the latest beta BIOS for that board. I think this is the case for most mobos of this type, which does limit RAM to 800MHz. Not that it matters, since RAM bandwidth matters little on AMD systems.
By the way OpticWaves, what BIOS revision did yours come with? The one I had was loaded with one dated 6/3/2008, which seems to be newer than the one available on DFI's site.

My ram is at 912Mhz right now, and says its running at ddr2 800, with Max MemClock set to 1066.

I don't notice any difference in speed when I drop the CPU multiplier. Is it the HT multiplier that sets the ram speed?

I'm assuming that it wouldn't get past 800 if it wasn't compatible with 1066?

if there was something I could do to get it to say 533Mhz, what would it be? Timings? I don't understand them enough, i need study the guides more.
