So I've been doing a lot of reading as of late on the site to try and find a good MB to get that I can toss a Phenom in later when there prices have gone down. I have an EVGA 8800gtx ASCIII vid card so I was leaning towards Nvidia to be able to run 2 in SLI later for upgrade purposes.

Originally I was looking at ASUS Crosshair II Formula AM2+/AM2 NVIDIA nForce 780a SLI but with all the negative feedback I've been seeing on here for Asus lately and the price tag and all the problems nforce 780 seems to be having I dont think I want to go that route.

So I was looking at going with DFI LANPARTY DK 790FX-M2RS seems like you all are happy with this board over all I was going to order it with Thermaltake CL-C0034 for a replacement N bridge cooler cause it seems that is the only real problem with this board and a Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Black Edition with puts me at 235 dollars. The downside is I can't run SLI later but it'll give me a good overclocking combo to learn more about and takes less power than my current 6000+ that I'd like to sell. There is nothing wrong with the chip I just wanted a more overclock friendly cpu and the added power savings is a bonus.

Now I go to newegg today to make my purchase and I see AMD Phenom purchase get a free Mobo so I could purchase BIOSTAR A770 A2+ with a AMD Phenom 9850 BLACK EDITION for the same price tag of 235 bucks. So I wanted to know what you all thought of this MB and which way you would all go as far as the new purchase.

Also I'd like to know where would be a good spot to try and sell my 6000+ I rarely post here because I come here to learn info and unfortunately I don't have a lot of knowledge to distribute so I don't have the rep to post in the for sale forums here.

That combo looks like a great deal to me. Lots of people here have that same Mobo and its been working well for them. I have a Biostar as well (Tforce 720a) and am very happy with it. They OC well, and have some cool features ( memtest is built into the bios!). I'd say go for it... but then you dont really end up with an energy savings.... just twice the processing power.

So any other coments on this? would you stick with the dfi 790 or downgrade to the biostar 770 for the newer processor? I'm thinking of just buying the DFI for now and using my 6000+ untill I can sell it. Then looking into other options.

you don't need to get the 5000+ BE, your CPU is good enough to OC on that board and get you 3.2-3.4ghz. I would honestly wait for the 790GX board with the SB750 which would help OC the Phenom chips better if you were planning on going that route and crossfireX. Other than that everything looks good I was thinking about getting that board as well so I can get another 4850

Newegg granted me a RMA refund on my board even tho it was outside the rma deadline so I need to order a board now, was planning on doing it tonight because i'm getting like 180 back from that once I send this POS epox back.
I was hoping that The Duke or others would maybe chime in on there thoughts of that Biostar board (since from what I read it seemed he was a fan of biostar) especially running the Phenom. Since I more or less get the board for free it would work for now and in the future I could always upgrade the board if I really needed too. And it can't be any worse than the board I have right now.
I liked all the really positive feedback I heard about the DFI board but it does seem like it'd make more seance to get the quad core. I've put the 5000+ Black on the back burner and am not going to buy it for now. I'm trying to sell my 6000+ on Amazon for 85 bucks as well so maybe I'll just get the phenom and if I can sell my 6000+ later pick up a better MB.

well, vihndiezel has a good point... the new chipset is supposed to help the phenoms OC like crazy. So you could stay with what you've got for right now, or... you could buy the 9850 BE and get the free mobo ( you could turn around and sell it if you really wanted), play around and OC till you hearts content, then when the new boards come out, sell the 6000+ and your both your mobos( current and the biostar), and put that money into a new SB750 mobo. Then you end up with the newest of both CPU's and Mobos, and you dont have to buy both parts twice.
If you go with the combo and later sell the Biostar, you end up just getting an amazing deal on a phenom, and later get an even better Mobo. Untill then the Biostar will OC quite well.
hopefully that didn't confuse you or make it harder to decide.

sounds like you can basically get the phenom for free when you RMA your current board. Thats pretty sweet that newegg is doing that for you.
As far as Biostar boards... theres been a number of threads on here recently where people like you have been deciding which way to go, and lots of people have chimed in to give their input. All i can say is that my Biostar has easily taken my 4600+ to 2.85 (235x12) and 3.0GHz(250x12). Thats all I've tried so far, as i'm still on stock cooling. It worked right from the get go. I'd suggest looking through the last couple days worth of mobo threads. there's some good input there... and i think the duke even put a few words in...

I"m looking at getting the Phenom and this BIOSTAR TA770 A2+ Its 10 dollars more and I like the look of it better. Its not there bottom end line has more or less the same features.

EDIT: Well it seems it will let me only do the combo deal (59.99 off + 10 mail in) with the A770 the TA is not an option ><

my mistake... i thought that the board in the combo was that board... i guess i didn't read quite closely enough. (A770 vs TA770). So all of my previous comments are directed at the board you just looked at, the TA770.

I have the TA770+, its a good mid range OCer, it however didn't get my 5000+ BE OCed as high as the Crossfire.
The Crossfire craped out bty, the VRM went wacko and spiked up the SB and vcore at random.

The TA770+ is a bit fussy and slow to boot. See the link on my review and others take on it.
Its not a premier MB but it works fine for me ... far longer than the two Crossfire MBs I went through.... BTW one Crossfire was stone cold DOA!

Hey duke I can't get the TA 770 in the Deal only the A 770, you think there will be much of a difference?
