Default Anthlon 64 nees a new mobo

ok, this is my first time working with AMD. and my friend has a computer which he bought 2 years ago. Now instead of just trying to trouble shoot the whole entire problem, we decided to slavage the 2 hdd, processor and disk drivers. is there any good mobo for sale (inexpensive) that i can use?

thanks in advanced

the mobo says socket 939, will another socket type be able use this?

No the CPU can't be used with anything except 939 socket motherboards... AM2 is a 940 socket and it WOULD fit, but they don't have the same pin layout and you'd definitely fry something...

939 motherboards are fairly expensive nowadays (at least the ones that can OC decently) and you might just be better off selling the gear and purchasing a new system...

939 motherboards have been discontinued and are hard to find in stock at most retail and online stores (even motherboardpro.com is OoS on 939 motherboards - and they're basically the last to supply them)... Luckily, a quick tour around our very own FS section shows a few possibilities

Gigabyte Ga-K8N-SLI for $50shipped

DFI Lanparty NF4 SLI DR for $110shipped

Also, if you tour around the site and help a few people out, you might earn the last rep you need to make a thread in the FS/Wanted section

hmm, okay so it would not be a wise decision to buy a new mobo for an old processor, thats waht i thaught. so hes willing alone to spend $110 for a new mobo, maybe i can get a mobo/proc deal.

any recomendations?

Badreligion, what does your buddy normally do on his machine? What kind of day to day tasks are conducted? Does he have a budget? If your still willing to go AMD you could go with a Gigabyte M57SLI-S4 and a 4400+ X2 for under $150 on newegg.com.

Let us know

Good luck

Elev8rSh0es, that is an excellent deal. Badreligion better jump on that before someone else does. Not only is that a good price but it's a DR. I have a SLI-DR board and it has served me well. The overclocking options are ridiculous! The onboard RAID is another plus.

Good luck guys
