I would start with a cmos reset and reseating eveything. Try to boot with CPU, one stick of RAM and GFX card only (assuming you don't have on-board) If it posts, you kow it was something not seated right or a bad stick or RAM. Make sure to try the same thing with each stick seperately. Bad ram can cause very strange things to happen.

Also, make sure you have the CPU power plugged in along with the GFX card (if it has one) etc. It is usually the simplest thing.

edit: Also, this is a good reason to bench test the mobo. You should always make sure it posts out of the case before you go through the process of installing everything. I had a steel backing plate contact 2 points of solder that wore through the foam. It took me a while to find it and even then, it was only when I removed the mobo to RMA it that I noticed it.

See the below note on your MB, what may be at issue here is the MB may not be applying enough default voltage to the RAM. If you have the same issue with only one module the only possible solution, if its the voltage' is to install a common lower voltage module, set the defaults to accommodate the other RAM.

"Due to the High Performance Memory design, motherboards or system configurations may or may not operate smoothly at the JEDEC (Joint Electron Device Engineering Council) standard settings (BIOS Default on the motherboard) such as DDR2 voltage, memory speeds and memory timing. Please confirm and adjust your memory setting in the BIOS accordingly for better system stability.''

Good point, duke. To th OP, make sure you go into BIOS and set the proper RAM voltage. Some performance RAM runs at 2.0-2.1 or 2.2v. Default is usually 1.8v. I would check and see what the recommended voltage is for your sticks and adjust accordingly.

edit: duh, I suppose that would be tough since you can't boot.

Its a K8M800 chip set too, so OCing will be very limited since there is no lock on the PCI/PCIe/AGP bus.

Or, perhaps a local PC shop will lend you a module... worth a try.

it appears my ram and mobo are both 1.8v and so the ram can't be the problem, maybe it is the slots or something else, i really don't know to be honest!
