From the cpu support table it looks that way. There's no way to update unless you can get into the bios and use a flash mem-stick I'm afraid.

Be sure to be as clear as you can with the RMA guys when your explaining your problem, just go through everything that you tried step by step, it helps there techs get to the bottom of the problem quicker, which is better for you.

I hope the RMA does the trick!

The nice thing about MSI (at least it always has been) is that they tend to send out new boards instead of refurbing them. I got a bunch of MSI boards a while back at a puter store "fire sale" that were supposedly all refurbed, but they were actually beand new in the box boards. The employee said thats just how MSI does it.

well after checking my mobo they decided that i have to pay for a bios flash, so i am currently buying a sempron of ebay for £15 and after checking it's compatibility, will be using that too flash my mobo. earlier though, i noticed that my 4400 has some slightly bent pins on it's underside and i examined these an straightened them out, is my processor (excuse mon francais) fecked?

It they weren't bent too bad and you were careful, Id say you'll be okay. What did you use to straighten them out?

I can't believe they asked you to pay for a bios update. That is madness.

ok the sempron arrived, and guess what, no success so i am about to die!
i removed the battery and left it overnight will test when i get back from school. my dad (who's computing knowledge = 0) reckons a new power supply might help i only have 400w and thr mobo recommends 350w + and so does my video card, i have 2hdd and numerous 80mm fans, 1 sound card and 2 dvd drives, i reckon i should try a new psu!

The PSU has pretty low wattage, but I would reckon it's enough to get the machine running with the bare essentials connected.

How much will the RMA with postage and packing set you back do you think?

Im not entirely sure, msi have been idiots and very unhelpful, tomorrow i will try a new battery in my mobo and a higher wattage psu, my one is 400w but a pentium 4 one from like 2001!
PC Doctor should have a psu they could let me try, i just need to talk to him about 1337 gear and he get's talking for hours!
