I just lapped my 3800 X2 (s939) AND replaced the tim on the heatpipe and mosfets, now I'm getting no boot, and I'm not sure if I've bricked the MoBo or the Cpu or both.
![]() The beep code is two quick beeps then a very brief pause, then three more quick beeps- I can't find the beep codes anywhere (at least none that lists 5 beeps) and am not getting anything from the "voice codes" out the back panel! Yes I have cleared the CMoS and pulled everything off except the RAM (tested that on another machine too) and videocard(which is fresh back from RMA) Any A8n-SLI Premium owners out there that can help! Thanks guys (-n-gals) ![]()

Man, It has been so long since I had an A8N32-SLI Deluxe. I had a problem with a bad video card, but it was 4 quick beeps.

You said you replaced the TIM on the mosfets? did you ensure that the heatsinks are replaced properly and not shorting the board? Did you remove the board from its case to do any work? If so, try an out of case install test. If none of that works doulbe check your TIM to make sure it didnt spread out and make contact somewhere... boards generally dont like being short circuited.

I would reseat the RAM and the video card; even if these are known to work, it's very easy to overlook these as possible causes of POST failure. A simple nudge is enough to loosen the connections in the slots.
Believe it or not, another cause for POST failures is not having a PS/2 keyboard attached. Some motherboards refuse to POST without a keyboard connected to it. Hope this works for you! ![]()

If you don't count the first beep it could be video. All others are supposed to be RAM. Best to re-seat everything.

A Quick response without quoting the replies
@superk: Yes I double checked the heatsinks and mosfets, yes, I've done an out of case install - It's on the bench now (on standoffs, so no shorting there) and I used OCFreeze which is non-conductive tim) @txtmstrjoe: Yep I have tried both my videocards and double checked the connections (twice each): I also pulled the RAM and tried to boot with zero modules and my beep code did change to the standard RAM error code for my version of AwardBIOS (Asus 07.13.02) And finally, I have never had a problem booting with an USB keyboard- this board was truly "ahead of it's time" when I bought it! But, thanks for the suggestion! I whipped out an old PS2 and tried that- no diff. in post status or beep code. I still can't find any link to a 5 beep error code anywhere- the closest was at BiosCentral-AwardBIOS Beep Codes where there was a "user- suggested" -"nonstandard" 5 beep code for a corrupt BIOS, but, that was for a GB board with dual chips. Further listening (for clarification for anybody trying to help) the first two beeps are very densely spaced - almost like one long beep with a stutter in the middle, then the pause and then the next three beeps are of standard duration, tone, and spacing. I'm stumped! Odds on the board or on the cpu pooping out? Anyone have experience bricking a cpu by lapping? and yes I had the pins protected during the "procedure", and have since double/triple checked the pin integrity-none bent, cracked, or missing! I had been planning on buying a 4400x2. ($120 if I'm lucky) just to extend the life of the board, before my next major upgrade. but, now I don't know if it's the cpu or the board, and buying the 4400 and finding out it is the board would not be good! and replacing both would cost about $250 (if it wasn't for the additional RAM cost of DDR2 I'd just get a cheapie AM2 rig and 5000BE) Or I could get the board and another 3800X2- But, I'd still be out ~ $150 and I'd still be here! exactly where I started! Anyone know of a cheap(er) solution (loaner/rental s939 cpu anyone?!) ![]()
