Default Is My Mobo Dead?

Title says the question. Here are the symptoms:

So far the other day the computer died. It didn't shut off but the screen just went blank. Nothing responded except the CD drive opening and closing. This happened once before a few weeks ago but I just restarted it and nothing was wrong. THis time though It wouldn't POST anymore. Everything came on but no beep and no POST.

So far I've tried unplugging everything but the CPU (didn't want to remove the waterblock and everything as it's a BIG headache). It's always the same. Whatever is plugged in gets power and will work, but the computer will not POST. Not even the error code beeps happen when I remove the RAM. The vid card still does the klaxon warning if it gets no power. Give it power though and it doesn't beep and the fan comes on. Power supply fan is on as well. I dont' get it. All I can think is the mobo or the power supply. I'm leaning towards the mobo though.

Any input or questions would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks guys!

Same thing happened to my roommate, turned out it was the CPU (I would have thought it would have still given beep codes, but it didn't). From what I read at the time, it could be either your CPU or the mobo, and I don't know if there's a way to tell which unless you have a spare of one or the other lying around.

Rats, no I don't ahve a spare one of either laying around. I wasn't expecting anyone to say the CPU. That makes it interesting.

Slipstream, have you tried clearing your CMOS and running at stock clocks? Perhaps your overclock is starting to fail. What kind of stability tests did you run in the past? Have you tried different memory? Have you tried testing with a different power supply? If you have a multimeter laying around you can easily tests the voltages. Here is a great guide that should describe this process: http://www.clunk.org.uk/forums/guide...ing-guide.html. Perhaps you may want to mount a passively cooled heatsink for the time being. If you have to take the board out to take off the block then I would just leave the board out and test it that way. Make sure everything is placed on a non-static surface.

Let us know

Good luck
