Default A7V8X-X mobo w/3000 Barton need help OCing

System Specs:

A7V8X-X Asus mobo
AMD 3000 Barton (retail 333FSB)
1gb PC 3200RAM
ATI 9600XT

Mobo allows me to change cpu multiplier between about 10 and 20 (13 standard). And FSB from about 100 to 200 (166 Standard). When i change the multiplier to anything other than 13 it saves the changes and remembers them when i reboot, when i boot the OS my computer still only runs at 2164ghz instead of the new set multiplier speeds (such as 15x166fsb). I am able to change the Frequency it runs at, but I can only go so far with that.

PLEASE HELP!!!!!

That's probably just because this chip isn't unlocked, that would be my guess. Just like I can choose a 24x multiplier for this chip but it doesn't do anything

I've heard that u can physicaly connect certain pins inorder to allow for the multipliers to actually register, somthing about the last gold pins on the L3 bridge..... Could this be true or just hopeful thinking and false posts?

I don't think it works on Barton cores (?) but yes by bridging various connects on the top of the processor with a conductive paste it allows you to select higher multiplier

It really doesn't matter. The higher the fsb, the more bandwidth you have. Which means better performance. I think that's a Via chipset board and they don't OC as well as the nforce boards. It does not have a agp/pci lock. You should be able to hit 200 mhz fsb if you can set the divider to 6( 6:1 ratio), and you have good enough cooling.

Set your multi to 11 and your fsb to 180. then boot up. Keep increaseing FSB by 2-4 notches untill it becomes unstable. Then decrease FSB untill stable.
Good luck

thanks for all the help =) i wasn't sure bought the pin connecting, but found it at this site, didn't know if it was ligit and didn't want to have to get a new processor :P. http://www.subvers.com/technobabble/.../amdbarton.htm. I guess i'll just try to tweak the fsb.

Thanks again for all the help

Just watch the agp/pci and don't let it get over 72/36 or it will corrupt your HD.

This board does offer an AGP lock.
