Default HELP, problems with my new mobo

Hi all, I just bought an AMD Athlon XP 3200+, to put into my motherboard, a Gigabyte 7VT600 1394. After installation, the cpu was only being read at 1.11GHz, when it should be at 2.2GHz. I updated to the newest bios, and I tried adjusting the CPU Host Frequency from 100MHz to 200MHz, which I believe will make it read at the correct FSB speed of 400MHz, but it will only let me go up to 132MHz. I tried to start it up with that, and I got a boot failure, but when I took it lower in the 110-115 range it would boot up and read a slightly faster CPU speed. Does anybody have any advice on how to get my stuff clocking right? Please let me know. Thanks!!

I think maybe the motherboard doesn't support 400FSB and therefor can't support that chip

it says on the amd site that the board is supported by it. Everything else I find says so as well. The following link is to the Gigabyte website for my botherboard, it says on there that it supports 400MHz FSB. http://tw.giga-byte.com/MotherBoard/...600%201394.htm Thanks for your help.

What the speed of your ram that you have? Also you need to change the Ram Frequency in the bios to 400MHz that will make it run a 1:1 ratio and sink up with your Fsb.

Acording to your link it should support 400 FSB. IM not sure about that board but some-In the bios you can change fsb from auto to manual to bySP. Put it on what looks like manual and try.

I have 2 x 256Mb DDR 266 RAMs. Would that limit the FSB of my processor?

that equates to 133FSB but if the board it self doesn't have options any higher than 132FSB there's a different problem

Try changing your Ram Frequency to 400MHz in the bios! See if that works.

Well that could be the problem, if you're forcing your DDR266 to run at 400MHz it's gonna fail, try setting it to DDR333 or DDR266 in memory clock settings
