First, I want to make it very clear, DO NOT TRY THIS JUST TO TEST MY PROBLEM!!! I'm asking for people that has this problem, or has had this problem, or people that don't have this same issue but has a similar setup as I.
This is now the second time this similer issue has happened to me. The first time, I went to hibernate my computer on hopes for faster boot times which was fine. But when I turned the PC back on Windows went haywire and shortly after BSOD before even getting to the desktop. There was a couple times before that I was able to simply restart and be ok. However, the last time I went to hibernate Windows failed to boot supposably because of a missing or corrupt file. I don't remember exact detail on this one cause it has been a while back. Anyhow I had a very similar issue last night except with "Sleep". I tried preventting from putting the computer to sleep or hibernate due to the previous issues but accidently but the computer to sleep last night. After powering back up from sleep the user loggin screen displayed put there was lines all over the screen, really shaky looking. After I click my name to access my account, I arrived to the desktop (lines still throughout the screen) then the screen began to flicker. After a few black screens then back k to the desktop, with lines, an error popped up saying something like Windows has failed several times to initialize the video drivers, then BAM, BSOD. When I restarted and right before Windows was to begin loading, I had a white blinking underscore on a black blank screen at the top left corner of the screen . I waited 5-10 minutes but nothing happened. So I tried Windows repair/recovery tool on the Vista 64 disk. It said it was "fixing problems with the hard disk". When I tried restarting after that I then got an error right when Windows load screen was about to display, "Windows failed to load because the file 'PCIIDEX.SYS' is missing or corrupt." And that's it, I tried all recovery options to no avail. Same error everytime... I have already began my long, long night reinstalling Windows withe my 384k Internet service (parents say it's fast enough for them even though I'm willing to pay the difference ).So my question is, as anyone else have this problem? If so, how did you fix it, if it was fixed? The machine with this problem is the one in my sig. I know for a fact it is not due to overclocks because the last time this happened there was non. Everything else about this machine works great, no issues anywhere else, great performance. Any help will be much appreciated.

Are you using a second (or even third) monitor in your setup? I have issues on my machines with more than one display (so have others). Generally, I've heard of issues with sleep/hibernate not working properly.
EDIT: Here's a quick google on your issue with the missing file: http://www.google.com/search?q=PCIID...x=&startPage=1 Here's a quick google/OCN search: http://www.google.com/search?q=site%...x=&startPage=1

Just one display, the time it did with hibernate, it was a 19" LCD and the sleep which was a clean install as of Sunday was with a 24" LCD. After yanking one of the drives to get my files, I looked for that file "PCIIDEX.SYS" and it seems to be instact. I'm thinking the registry is corrupt. When I try to start safe mode, it loads about 15-20 files then I get the error as mentioned in above post. I made a mistake on the error too, it says "Windows failed to load because a required file is missing or corrupt." and it state the file right above this as "File: PCIIDEX.SYS".
I have searched and have found nothing except for a patch on Microsofts site. I'll look it back up and see if any of yal know if the patch is related to my issue.

This is the patch I found on microsofts site: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943170
Does this have anything to do with my problem. They don't give the greatest description about what it is suppose to do ![]() Another thing to note, if it is relevent or not, video cards was in CrossfireX.

Here is one I found, this must have been after I ran the recovery tool on Vista's disk and it found startup issues and tried to repair them...

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931673 http://blogs.techrepublic.com.com/wi...windows/?p=459 You need to set it up in order to retain the information. Are all the components running correctly in your machine? Particullarly, the video card and ram. Video card being the obvious due to the screen issues and ram because bad ram writes bad info. I'd run memtest86 on those, just to be sure.

Already ran memtest, everything good there... However, now that you mention it, even though all three cards seem to perform (noticable improvements in performance from 1 to 2 to 3) the third does not display its info correctly. In AOD, including the latest, the GPU and memory clocks are "--" or something of the sorts with out quotes, couple other bits of info does not display either. In CCC, all three shows up fine but when I overclock the third the "Test Custom Clocks" button is always greyed out.
I have searched google for this before but have found nothing...
