As I say I've eliminated the psu by trying in a different computer and it worked. I say the wires that power on the system. If you have the same memory in your system as your sons you can test it on yours. But I think its just a connection.

After reading I believe it may have to do with the memory. 800 supported 8500 may be to fast for it.

If a motherboard has power going to it, but incompatible ram or CPU, it will still power on and the fans would spin up. So I don't think it is the ram or CPU that is causing the PC not to power up.

I would check the 110/220 switch on the back of the PSU and make sure it is switched to your correct voltage type. Then do as was already mentioned and check the power switch from the board to the case. I remember when the eVGA 680i manual had them reversed, the system would not power on at all when I followed the directions...

If you have no RAM in a computer, it will still power on for a few seconds. So, if it won't turn on at all, RAM is not the issue.

Did you make sure that the two pn or the front header to turn power on is correct? Or more so, is there a LED that's lit up on your motherboard?

the psu is jeantech jnp-500ap. I cannot find no switch for switching between 110/220, but as I said I have tried this psu in another tower and it fired up as normal the 2 pin power switch has 2 wires a white one and black one, i have tried them either way and still nothing. I can't find anything lit up on the motherboard, whether it is there and I just can't see it I don't know
