I have just ordered the following from newegg:
__________________GA-MA790X-UD4P (bios version ???) AMD Phenom II x2 550 BE Corsair Dominator DDR2-1066 (2x2GB) HIS 4850 512MB GDDR3 My question is ....in case that I need to update bios to the newest F5A version (or if it comes with it already) will I be able to unlock 4 cores given that cpu is a good yield? More specifically is ACC option in version F5A capable of doing it? In case F5A is not capable of doing it can I downgrade it to some other version and in case that I can, to what version? Taken from their site for F5A BIOS Quote:
P.S. Apparently there are two versions F5 (2009/6/3) on the gigabyte.com.tw and F5A (2009/5/12) on gigabyte.us F5A http://www.gigabyte.us/Support/Mothe...S&FileID=14618 Size: 645 KB (661,462 bytes) F5 http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/M...S&FileID=14702 Size: 646 KB (661,709 bytes) What's the deal with that?

I was able to unlock the 4th core on my 720be but it wasn't stable at all pre F5a Bios. I updated to F5a and I was able to get it stable. I am not sure with a 550 though.

I am not sure what the difference is. From what I was able to find out is that with F5a the ACC option was put in. From what I read is that AMD doesn't want people to have the ability to unlock all cores, but that they will allow for options that will allow all cores to be unlocked.
__________________With the F5a bios in the ACC option it gives you "normal" or "Hybrid" firmware. To unlock all the cores you need to use the hybrid.

there was no f5 bios. it was..f2b..f4..f5a. and f5a gets the job done. all it needs now is hope your chip is a good one.

A little late, but any of the gigabyte bios with a letter after the number are beta bios. So a F5a or F5c will be prior to the official F5 release.

If you didn't get enough confirmation from this thread, yes this board and that bios version will unlock the phenom II processors..my 550 is stable at stock 3.1ghz with not voltage bump.
