Ok, i installed the http://skinflint.co.uk/a414456.html Kabuto FAN and on startup my CPU has now 30° with 220rpm instead of 54° C

I overclocked it to 3.52GHZ with 3 Cores and when i run Prime95 i get 40-42° @ ~ 600rpm.
I think i will overclock it to ~ 3.7 - 3.8 GHZ

The Kabuto fits very well, but i had to remove the motherboard from the case!

Humpf29, welcome to overclock.net

Those temperatures are pretty impressive especially with the fan running at 600rpm. I bet that thing is virtually silent. Are you still running the stock voltage at 3.5Ghz?

Good luck

I can only use a 19x multiplier on this board with my 550BE. If I try to set it higher, the multiplier will go back to (Auto). Does anybody else have this issue or is it just me?

Yes....same here, being a budget MOBO, there had to be some downside didnt there....

Also can someone tell me how run my 550 as a 3 core via ACC?...as a 4 core its unstable, but i would like to see if i can get a stable 3 core...

What settings in the BIOS do i need....?

Bagpuss, if I'm not mistaken a 550BE can only be unlocked to a quad-core. Can anyone shed some light on this question to verify for us? If you're experiencing stability issues after unlocking your 550BE then you may have a quad-core with two "read" failed cores

Good luck

Oh my....., turns out i was not giving my 4 core unlock enough volts...

made the necessary BIOS tweaks.....

and now i have a 4 core, Prime95 stable @3.7Ghz 550...

Only downside is my Radeon 4850 is no longer a worthy companion to such a Quad Core Monster....

Hmmm, a 4890 or Nvidia 285 now seems a worthwhile purchase....

New Benchie scores.....yum,yum,yum....

And my Resident Evil 5 Benchmark score has jumped from 64Fps to 88Fps...

(Damn PRT SCR function wont work on Win7, so no screen shot..)

£80 for a CPU thats only about 10-15% slower than a Core :I7.....

This setup should be good until 2011 now, with an improved Gfx card.....

Without doubt, the best CPU i have ever bought....

So, i have 3.7GHZ with 3 Cores at 41-42° IDLE and 50-52° with Prime95!
I am not able to run it with 4 Cores. Prime95 hangs up the system within 5 seconds and windows 7 benchmark reboots the system too...

I also have 5.9 (damn HDD) with win 7 benchmark. But i have CPU Benchmark = 7.3 with 3 Cores and you have 7.4 with 4 cores? Thats pretty bad, because i had with 4 Cores @ 3.1 GHZ also 7.3, so you should have more there...

And you have 1.448 VCORE? Thats pretty much. Whats the temperature from the proci during the benchmark? I have 1.392 (1.395) with 3 cores @ 3.7. When i used 1.44 with 3 cores the temperature was about 5° hotter instead of running it with 1.392! But i will try tonight if the 4th core is working with 1.44.

About the 3 Core limit: This is very tricky and i also searched long in the net for it. Maybe some motherboards have a option to limit the cores, but the nvidia doesnt have it. So you have to limit the cores within your OS
Here is the howto: http://en.kioskea.net/faq/sujet-616-...disable-a-core
You have to change the boot.ini/bcdedit thing > win vista via msconfig. There is an option that is called numproc=XX and there you can change it to 3!
In the link there is also the linux way described

But with 3700 MHZ it is very stable. I am wondering how the Threadstarter got more then 4 GHZ. Most testing sites on the net are just getting 3.7GHZ stable.

And i have a sloppy HD 4650 GDDR3 512MB. So your card is better than mine But i just wanted to upgrade cheap

Humpf29, interesting find. Does this only disable the other core on the OS level and not the hardware level as well? In other words I'm assuming at POST your processor shows up with four cores?

Good luck
