Default MA790x or 'fx.. which one..

basically, im in the market for a new board for my PII940, and i cant decide which one..

$ is not an issue, im looking to be able to push my 940 to 3.8-4 like my DFI did before it died(had issues to begin with). I only have one video card, that is my 4870x2, and i dont ever plan on running it in xfire. my next gpu purchase will be something supporting DX11. also, i only have 2 SATA devices, no raid, and really nothing else special, i just want to be able to OC the ***** out of my PII, and game it up.

I have narrowed it down to three choices, but will listen to ALL opinions..
  1. MA790x - with this, i can afford to get some 1150 RAM.
  2. MA790fx - would be mobo only, and use 1066 RAM I have.
  3. M4A79 Deluxe - Same with the previous.

EDIT: or should i just get another FXB from DFI... a direct replacement..(i swore to myself i wouldn't, but..)

i just really need to know, if it is worth spending the xtra $ for the higher end boards, if i dont really need all the 'xtras'.. would the MA790x OC like the big dogs..

+rep for help. thanks.

the 790x and fx are basically the same, they will overclock too around the same levels, the essential difference between the two is that the fx's support 16-16x crossfire where the x supports 8-8x, if your running one card though they will both run them at a full 16.

so in short i would go with 790x but dont bother getting the memory if you already have 1066

1st of all The 2nd Choice Is Using DDR3 Ram So u Cant Run DDR2 On It And u Cant Put ur 940 On It Cause it Is For AM3 ONLY!

i Suggest Going With The First Choice Which Is Gigabyte MA790X-UD4P Cause It Is A Wonderful Mobo

actually it is DDR2, and i can use my 940 on it..

either way, so far seems like the 790x is the way to go since im not going to be running xfire..

its not exactly a waste, but its not really worth dropping 80$ on it when your already running 1066, just push your memory as far as it goes. say if you where going from 6400 or 5400 i would have a different opinion on the matter lol.

I would go with the first board, and then just save up towards a DX11 card so you can purchase as soon as they release and get all the bragging rights that come with them. I don't think you'll see any higher OC's by going with the FX or the Asus, and they come with a lot of features that you wouldn't really need since you're not planning on using crossfire at all.
