Is there a big performance hit if I stay with a 4850 on a pci express 1.0.
Plan on redo my desktop and wonder if I should upgrade mobo and that seems to be the only to bother me. Cpu Athlon X2 5050e Mobo (now) ASUS M2NPV-VM Ram (now) 1Gb of kingstan value (Upgrading to 4GB's Of gskill) DVD (none) HDD 250GB eide wd (upgrading to 500GB Green sata) Video 4850 PSU 500 FSP.

Not a big difference especially if its 'just' a 4850

You won't see a difference with a 4850, I barely saw a difference with a GTX 260.

YES!
__________________With PCIe 2.0, you have got much more bandwidth which will fully use the video card, therefore giving better performance. I noticed a huge difference from going from PCIe 1.0 to PCIe 2.0 with my HD4670. If you want to just upgrade the motherboard, then I would recommend this AM2+ motherboard. GIGABYTE GA-MA790X-UD4P AM2 CPU's will work with this motherboard and if you ever decide to get an AM3 CPU like the Phenom II X4 955BE, then the motherboard will support that. I assume the GSkill you are getting is DDR2...

I might be wrong but with what I have read. A PCIe 2.0 GPU can only make use of x16 if you use two you can have 2x16. One card can never do more than x16 but two if 2.0 can use 2x16=32. SLI on 1.0 is 2x8? You see. So for one GPU it makes zero difference. The comment before about noticed the difference between 2.0 and 1.0 on a 4670? Consider they have external cards that use an Express Card slot PCIe x1. I seriously doubt x16 is any kind of limitation. PCIe 2.0 is not x32, it is 2x16 so one card gets no advantage.

If I get the chance when I get home from work, I may do some benchmark tests/ game runs with one 4850 @ Pci-e 2.0 x16 and then @ x8 (effectively Pci-e 1.0 x16)
