got this a few days ago, so wanted to fidle around with it... first of all i can't figure out the voltages for the cpu. my default in bios is 1.425, but i've read (including this forum) that it should be 1.325. i am wondering because if it's 1.425 i could probably get away with 1.55 without seeing any white smoke ![]() currently i've got it setup like this: cpu 14 * 250 ( +0.025v), nb 250 * 8, ht 250 * 8. the temps are rather cold (cpu max load 39, nb 35). but when testing for stability (occt + superpi + wprime + foobar + copy of an iso file) i've had everest running in the background checking for temps. i found out that the fsb (or htt which ever u like more) was changing it's value, ranging from 239 - 250, subsequently changing the value of cpu, nb and ht link. oddly enough it passed the stability test with flying coulurs. while there is no load fsb is rock stable at 250. i'm asuming this is a power supply problem, but am looking for a confirmation before i run to the store for a new one. furtheremore every attempt to raise fsb beyond 250 resulted in failure, system crash, or no boot (even at 251). but i add this to the second problem. |

If I understood well the HTT is wobbling between 239 and 250, but the rig is stable. First it's not the PSU, it can't possibly change the frequency, only the amplitude of the signal (ex. give 1.4 in stead of 1.5V). Since the rig is stable I'd try a diagnostic: software probe reading error. The reading error probably is connected to a certain software, changing it should solve the problem.
Now the fact it is rock stable @250, but refuses to post @251 looks like a mobo limitation. As solution to bypass try firstly a BIOS update, it may be a BIOS quirk. If this doesn't work lower the CPU multi to 13x and the other multis to 7x; also make sure the RAM is on such a setting as its clock speed doesn't surpass stock values. If you can go over 250 HTT it's a RAM or CPU/NB/HTT limitation, if it still lock at 251 you're mobo-limited. keep us posted

thx for the response.
this is where i am now with the settings: ![]() ![]() the biggest question is will i get any improvements from increasing voltages of nb voltage control, sb/ht voltage control, and pcie voltage control. i figured out (googled actually) that ddr vtt shoud be half of ddr voltage. i have 2*1 gb patriot ddr 2 800 which defaults at 2.2v, but i've decreased it to 2.1 (tested it before and it was enough for 1066 mhz). i've tried going beyond 250 htt and made some succes at 262. 1 hour occt passed with flying colours, but i've encountered some stuttering while watching videos (.avi, occurs every ~20-30 mins). probably is a voltage problem, but i can't figure out which voltages should i increase. it would be wonderful if someone would please explain me what is the difference between nb voltage control and cpu nb vid control (it is my understanding that the nb is incorporated in cpu), and increasing which should allow me higher htt speeds? |

Hi! I just joined because I was trying to see if anybody else had managed to get a decent OC out of my system, which is the same CPU/MOBO as yours. I've got revision 2.0 of the motherboard though, I don't know if that will affect it.
Anyways, I've gotten mine up to 3.8 on stock cooling at 1.52v and running 20c at idle, 41c at load. I did manage to rig up a 92mm vantec tornado on the cpu though. It's undervolted to 7v to help with the noise. I'll post the rest of my settings soon. If not tonight, then definitely tommorow. edit: Oh by the way, I see you got your ram to run at the rated speed. I've got a pair of 2GB G.Skill dimms that are supposed to run at 1066 and I can't get them past 900 even with the voltage up to 2.3. You said that the VTT is supposed to be half of the DDR volt? ![]() ![]() After fiddling around with the dram vtt voltage and the nb cpu voltage, I finally managed to get my ram to perform. Anyways, I figured I'd post this to show you what should be possible with your rig. I know it's all up to luck and each part is different, but I've seen some of these same chips at 4ghz. I'm also running a stock heatsink from an old am2 socket (bigger heatsink, same shape) with a 92mm vantec tornado at 7v on the cpu. And I've got 5 120mm case fans also. I'm not sure how well your case's airflow is, but it's a big help if you can get that under control. |
