Well, yeah, the core 2 duo rig was slightly overclocked to 3.2 ghz (400 fsb) at stock volts, the same 2 gb ddr2-800 kit that I'm using and the same hd 4850. It scored 12K 3dmarks with a G31 board, using vista premium x86 and the OS never felt laggy and opened apps fast. Now, with the phenom at stock, the same ram and vga, it scores around 10700 3dmarks using the latest motherboard drivers from gigabyte website and the latest ati drivers, and it loads windows way slower. After post, justs a black screen for about 25-30 seconds (maybe more) and then the loading windows vista screen. The apps open a little slower that the core 2 duo rig. I'm hating this, is it the motherboard or what? I had that same idea that the phenom at stock would at least score 14K 3dmarks..

well that sure sounds like a mobo problem to me. you might as well try rmaing it or exchange it for a better one like that gigabyte ud4p.

Well, I took the motherboard to RMA today, and they gave me a brand new one, of the same model, they didn't have any other higher am2+ or am3 models so I had to settle with that same one. I installed it in my system and reformatted, and it is way faster than the last one, at least in boot time. I installed the motherboard and video card drivers and some software I use. Maybe later I do a couple of 3dmark runs to check things out. Hopefully, the score will go up, too.

I OC'd the thing to 3.6 on stock volts and ran 3dmark06. It gave me a score of nearly 13K 3dmarks... is that about ok? Still sounds a little low to me..

Hi Freebird. I ordered the same Board (Gigabyte GA-MA785GM-US2H) and a Phenom II 945 C2 95W CPU.

When you installed windows, Did you have to flash the BIOS first? Can you Update the BIOS through windows??

Sorry for the newb question. Im just asking cuz I learned I might have to update the BIOS

Hi, sorry for the delay. I flashed bios due to low system performance, after installing windows but I did so using the bios update utility within the bios. I think is safer that way, I really don't like flashing bios while in windows. Oh, by the way, the processor was detected fine with the stock bios (I think it was F2). I see your processor is the 95 W revision so you might need that bios update. Greetings and good luck

This motherboard has a very easy to use bios update program. Just download the new firmware. Extract to a flash drive. reboot to bios. start the bios update program(I think its called Q-Flash) and load from flash drive. That it.
