Default Atlhon II X2 on old board?

I've got some time ago an old Foxconn A6vmx (690V chipset) and I would like to get a new Atlhon II X2 running on this board.

My question is: although mine board is only 2000MT/s HyperTransport capable, is it feasible to run the new Atlhon II X2 on this board or will it be so limited by the HT that an old Atlhon X2 would get me better performance?

The system in question is used only to do daily work: office, browse and e-mail. So, I don't plan to waste many money if it isn't really needed.

Gee, I didn't say "socket AM2+" doesn't support AM3 cpus, I said his board doesn't. Nothing mentioned in his manual nor the product page, about supporting AM3. Not even in his CPU support list, either. It's not supported, period.

Nope, not even after the latest BIOS update. They didn't include any AM3 cpus in the support list. Hell, it doesn't even list AM2+ Phenom II, for that matter. You're better off with a new board, or buying the fastest AM2+ cpu that is supported, and sticking it in there. If you stuck a non-supported cpu in there, not only would BIOS not read it, but its performance would be handicapped, and a high possibility of booting, overclocking, and Windows installation issues.

Just checked again the compatibility page and yep, you are completely right. Messed stuff. I have 2 old motherboards and tought that the compatible one was the foxconn. Sorry for the mistake.

Anyway, the compatible one is the MSI K9n6pgm2-v (MCP61chipset). And it got only 1000MT/s. My question remains the same: will the Atlhon II X2 be too limited by HT that an old Atlhon X2 will get better performance?
