I don't really have enough money for 4 gigs of DDR3 right now, but I would like the AM3 socket option for the future. If my motherboard can support AM2/AM2+ as well as AM3 does that mean it supports DDR2 and DDR3 as well?
It seems like a silly question, but I want to make sure.

Ok, the way it works is this:
AM2, AM2+ and AM3 CPUs will all support DDR2. They must be placed on AM2+ boards to use this kind of RAM. AM3 CPUs only will support DDR3 and must be placed on AM3 boards to use this kind of RAM. Note that the AM3 socket was purposely designed to be pin INcompatible with AM2/AM2+ so you shouldn't normally be able to put an older CPU into an AM3 board. The memory controller on an AM2(+) CPU does not know what DDR3 is and you will not like the results if you try this.

No, only pure AM3 boards support DDR3. AM2/AM2+/AM3 combo boards only support DDR2.

basically dont put a AM2+ processor in a AM3 motherboard
but you can put a AM3 prcoessor in an AM2+ mobo and run on DDR2
