Default Which 790GX Board is Best

DKA790GX Platinum or Gigabyte GA-MA790GP-UD4H

I'm looking between these 2 boards currently. Now 2 things stand out significantly. The Gigabyte board has the better integrated Realtek Sound but only has the 128MB DDR3 Sideport for the VGA. Now on MSI's site, it says ther their motherboard has 512MB + 1GB sideport. Now to me that looks like it's saying it has 512MB of Sideport RAM built in and can be upgraded to up to 1GB of System RAM. Is that right? I looked at a review and it says it has 128MB Sideport that runs DDR2 at 1333Mhz. Which one would you buy?

790GX Platinum on MSI's Site

Edit: nvm about the sideport RAM question...I finally found a review site that actually has it correct. 128MB Sideport DDR3.

Edit: Also, this motherboard is for my new Athlon II X4 630 Processor

I would go with the Gigabyte.

I have personally worked with Gigabytes 790 Chipset lineup (790X/790XT 790GP/790GPT 790FX/790FXT) and they are all great boards to work with. Very robust BIOS to work with. And the Gigabyte line-up has been my favorite for most of AM3 as there boards suffered the least with intial BIOS and have only gotten better since then.

This doesn't effect you as much since you're on a K8 chip.

Also, older MSI boards are not even close to the quality of current MSI boards. Even though I am not a fan of the GD70 and MSI's new lineup, they atleast are competitively priced for what you get. The older MSI boards are just not even close.

I agree with Tator Tot, the Gigabyte is the way to go. I'm unsure if MSI builds quality boards with the 790x chipset, but if it's anything like the NF9xx series of Nvidia boards, you're not going to get the best. 790GP all the way.

EDIT: While these products are currently unavailable at Newegg, the Gigabyte received more and better reviews.

Okay sorry...I'm using this board for my new Athlon II 630 X4 Processor to retire my Socket A Athlon XP rig. Considering it will use less power and do a better job at processing, it only seems natural. But it looks like Gigabyte has 3 votes so far.

That makes all the difference then.

Gigabyte all the way in this case, as the MSI lacks CPU-NB voltage last time I checked. Which if you are overclocking on Athlon II it's essential.
