1. Intel is better but AMD has some good budget CPUs
3. Newegg is a good retailer
4. AGP is dead. Go for PCI-E.
5. Check out the X2 550 or the X3 720.

Why do I have to go AMD, I can get everything probably 20-25% cheaper with time of looking / drop price after time I finally get money to buy it all.

What board & card were you recommending with Intel?

What is the greatest bang for the buck Intel GAMING cpu? (still noone has been able to answer my L2 vs L3 :P )

And those two CPU's you listed are 2 and 3 core... wouldn't 4 be longer compatibility, averaging higher price out for longer period of time? (15 now big expenses start after 16 when owning an '86 )

At your price range of $500, it is better to go AMD. If you want to spend close to $1000, getting an Intel i5 may be better. For about $1500, getting an Intel i7 is better.

Since you like to game, it is more important to get a faster video card than say the fastest CPU like an i7.

With your budget, I wouldn't recommend a 4 core CPU. They don't add much to gaming anyway. The best Intel budget CPU is the E5200 (2 core).

L3 cache is generally slower than L2 cache.

intel is better but amd is great for budget
you definitely should go ati something between hd 4670 - 5770
get at least 2gb of ram not more then 4gb dont matter ddr2 or ddr3 (almost at same price)
you want a board thats upgradeable and overclockable

for 500 u could get some decent components of the important stuff, till you get more money you can use old speakers, monitor, mouse, psu, dvdrom, hard drive, cooler, case and stuff
