Which gaming board, and what components?

Okay - I'm a "gamer" so start there, not the one that wants to have super graphics and run on ULTRA HIGH detail, but more as play the FPS with great speed on med/low detail .... am I correct that AMD (specifically Gigabyte) boards are better then Intel (specifically pearls - last I knew)
Any help on any question(s) will be much appreciated... I know I'm being pretty Vague, so sorry about that

1.So... AMD or INTEL for gaming? What brand after that?

2.With that - whats the new tech talk on FSB... I use to know but now I look at all I see is "2600MHz Hyper Transport or just 2600MHz" Uhh?
What's the real FSB its putting out to the PCI slots, CPU, and Ram? Anyone know how to break this down or where to look...

3.Currently looking at newegg - is this the best place to be looking for gaming motherboards... fairly cheap?

4.Hoping to keep this gaming rig less than 500 for sure. Going with the best AGP card - OR a PCI-E card - which I know nothing about the PCI-E world ... so all new boards now days are PCI-E.... should I go PCI-E or AGP?

5.CPU - Was thinking AM3 for AMD boards, I didnt think Intel's i7 / i5 Dual / Quad L3 2.6 / 3.2 CPU (which is I think 160 - 300) was as good as like a... AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Deneb 3.4GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 140W Quad-Core Processor (which is currently $200 )

6.RAM - I think I can handle this after I pick a board, but if you have any comments on this for gamers... do share

AS for the FSB all but the HT haven't changed.

965 c3 stepping and 5870 vapor-x? cant go wrong with that lol but the 5870 vapor x is 410 on newegg lol, and for ram, dont get a low voltage kit, and get something with tight timings... oh and i just switched from an asus m4a79t deluxe mobo to an asus crosshair III and this board is amazing! i would highly recommend it (but its rather pricey) so perhaps an m4a78t-e? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131366

5750 Vapor-X = ATI Graphics card. also PCI express

At a price less than $500USD, you basically have to go AMD. A good choice is an AMD Phenom II X3 cpu because some games take advantage of more than 2 cores like Dragon Age. ATI cards have the best bang for the buck atm.
