Default PC turning itself off???

Okay, now for some odd reason, my PC just turned itself off while I was running Prime95 (I think my OC was unstable), but is it normal for it to completely turn off instead of restarting/BSODing?, when I woke up and turned my PC back on, it failed to POST, so I had to reset the CMOS. This has happened about two other times, where I have changed a setting or two in the BIOS, saved and exited, and just as it was about to POST, it just shut off.... does anyone have any ideas why this is?

temps were 40c CPU temp under load. The PC has also never turned itself off while doing general tasks in Windows nor gaming, and why would it shut off just before POSTing if it was overheating?

The CPU HSF/NB/SB and MOSFETs are only warm when stressing.

edit: Could my power saving options in Windows 7 be whats causing it? as it is set to ''Put my computer to sleep'' in 30 minutes of inactivity, does this count for Prime95 too?, but if it IS that, then why did my PC turn itself off that other time when POSTing?
